Colts beat Battalion in OT. #OHL

Last night the Barrie Colts won their first game of the season when they defeated the North Bay Battalion 5-4 in overtime with Kevin Labanc getting the game winner.

This game almost had a similar feel to the home opener on Thursday night in Barrie with the Barrie Colts starting things off with a 2 goal lead. First, Kevin Labanc scored (assist to Hooey) and about 6 minutes later, Joseph Blandisi would jump on the board with his first goal of the night giving the Colts a 2 goal lead!

(Sound like Thursday yet? It gets more similar..)

18:12 into the first North bay would jump on the board on the power play when Mike Amadio scored to cut the Colts lead in half. The first period ended with the Colts leading 2-1. North Bay had the edge in shots 11-8.

Early in the period, Michael Webster would take a tripping call and Mike Amadio would make them pay on the PP for the second time of the night and tied the game 2-2. Later, Kyle Wood scored his first of the night, giving North Bay the 3-2 lead.

That would not last long, when Blandisi would get his second goal of the night with assists going to Mangiapane and Labanc to bring the Colts back to a 3-3 tie.

At 14:42 in the period, Webster would take his second penalty of the game and 14 seconds later, Kyle Wood would (Wood would? Wood squared?) give North Bay the lead again 4-3.

16:19 seconds left in the 3rd and the Colts got a chance on the power play after North Bay got called for Interference. Just over a minute later, Blandisi would score his hat trick and tie the game at 4-4.

At the end or regulation, North Bay had the edge in shots 36-30. We are headed to Overtime!

1:10 seconds into overtime, Kevin Labanc would score the game winning goal with assists going to Mr. Hat Trick himeslf, Blandisi and The Incredible CJ Garcia!

Colts win!

Notes:

  • Colts need to be more careful taking penalties. 3 of the 4 goals North Bay got were on the PP and that was in 8 chances that the Colts gave them.
  • Blandisi's 4 point night puts him in 3rd in the league with 5 points.
  • Both Roy Radke & Givani Smith returned to the lineup last night after missing the season opener because of suspensions.
  • Blackwood saved 33 of 37 shots on goal.
Colts next game is Thursday, October 2nd when they head to Windsor to face the Spitfires. #GoColts
