Game Preview: Barrie Colts vs Owen Sound Attack. #OHL


Tonight the Barrie Colts (21-10-2-1) face-off against the Owen Sound Attack (14-14-1-4) for the first of six meetings this regular season. Barrie won the first meeting 6-4 in mid December. Andrei Svechnikov scored a hat-trick, including the game winning goal.

Owen Sound are coming off a 5-1 loss against the Kitchener Rangers Thursday night on home ice. The loss was the teams 4th consecutive. Markus Phillips scored the Attacks lone goal. Olivier Lafreniere got the start got the start and made 22 saves. Special teams was a struggle for Owen Sound having allowed 2 goals on 4 penalty kills; while going 0 for 5 on the power-play. Not familiar territory for Owen Sound who leads the league with a 26.0% success rate on the man advantage.

The Barrie Colts gallop into Owen Sound riding a 4 game win streak. Their last win came against the Sudbury Wolves this past Thursday Night at Barrie Molson Centre in a 4-2 win. Barrie had a 2-0 lead most of the game following goals by Luke Bignell (7th of the year) and Lucas Chiodo (13th of the year). Sudbury would tie the game, before Ben Hawerchuck scored his 7th of the year with 2:01 left in regulation. Christopher Cameron would add an insurance goal into an open net. His 1st of the season. Barrie got 39 shots on goal; 20 of which came from defencemen. Leo Lazarev got the start and made 34 saves on 36 shots faced.


Barrie is 10-5-2-0 on the road while, Owen Sound is 8-6-0-4 at home.


Both teams will be without top players tonight, with Andrei Svechnikov of the Colts playing on Team Russia, while Jonah Gadjovick of the Attack is playing for Team Canada.

Barrie will want to play a disciplined game tonight. As mentioned, Owen Sound leads the league on the power-play; while Barrie is 11th league wide on the penalty-kill. Aaron Luchuck, who was held off the score sheet last game will likely be hungry to add to his league leading 31 goals. The OA forward has 3 goals and 3 assists in 4 games since joining Barrie.
