Game Preview: Niagara IceDogs VS Barrie Colts. #OHL


Tonight, the Barrie Colts (33-19-2-1) host the Niagara IceDogs (26-20-5-3) for the 5th of 6 meetings this regular season. Barrie has won 3 of the 4 games over the Dogs this season, and have managed to score 5 or more goals in each win. A victory tonight would give the Colts a 11 point lead at the top of the Central Division.

Niagara comes into tonight losers of their last 8 straight games, only putting up 2 points in that time. Their last loss came last night to Owen Sound, 6-3. Akil Thomas, Matthew Philip and former Colt, Adrian Carbonara scored the Niagara goals. Niagara went 0 for 3 on the power-play. Stephen Dhillon got the start for the dogs and made 35 saves on 40 shots faced. With Barrie running away with the top spot in the division and North Bay 2 points behind them, Niagara will be desperate to get a win tonight over a Barrie team that has been so dominant.

Barrie comes home to the BMC extending thir winning streak to 3 games with a win over Windsor. Aaron Luchuk put on a show for his former team scoring 1 goal and adding 3 assists on the night. He is 1 point behind Morgan Frost for the OHL points lead, who has 93 points this year. Dmitry Sokolov scored a pair of goals and added an assist. Luchuk (42) and Sokolov (37) both lead the OHL in goals. Barrie was strong on special teams, going 2 for 3 on the man-advantage, while staying disciplined and killing off their lone penalty. Leo Lazarev got the start for Barrie and made 17 saves on 21 shots faced.

Barrie is 17-8-0-1 at home, while Niagara is 12-11-4-2 on the road.

Barrie sits just 5 points behind Hamilton for top spot in the East. Hamilton faces-off tonight against the Sudbury Wolves.
