Round 1 Playoff Preview - Barrie Colts VS Mississauga Steelheads. #OHL

The Barrie Colts (2) are set to face the Mississauga Steelheads (7) in round 1 of the OHL Playoffs.

Mississauga won 4 of 6 meetings this season. Here are the scores from those games. Here are the top five point producers on both teams at the end of the regular season.

Barrie Colts

NOTES:

  • Aaron Luchuck lead league in points (115), goals (50) and had the 3rd most assists(65).
  • Dmitri Sokolov scored the 5th most points (95) and was tied for most goals in the league with Luchuk (50).
  • Andrei Svechnikov lead the league among rookies with 72 points. His 40 goals was the most in the league for a rookie.

Mississauga Steelheads

NOTES:
  • Mathieu Foget was tied for most short handed goals (6) this season.
  • Nicolas Hague finished the year with 105 penalty minutes, 4th most league wide.

Here is a look at the goalies on both teams goaltending headed into the series.

Barrie Colts

NOTES: Leo Lazarev's 32 wins was 4th most among goalies this season. His 3 shutouts were tied for 3rd most this year.

Mississauga Steelheads

The Colts will be wise to play as disciplined as possible (is there an echo?). Mississauga has a power play percentage of 25.7% which was the best in the OHL. Barrie's penalty kill was 10th best this year at 79.3%.

On paper, the Colts look like the favourite here but you cant ignore the success the Trout have had over Barrie this year. Mississauga outscored Barrie 22 to 21 while winning 4 of 6 games. The Ponies no doubt are aware of this and will be ready when the series starts on Thursday. Let's hope that this series is as good as the last playoff meeting between these teams in 2016. If we end up needing a game 7 again, maybe we can get Justin Scott to come back for one game?
