The @OHLBarrieColts defeat the @Sudbury_Wolves 6-4. #OHL

Last night the Barrie Colts defeated the Sudbury Wolves 6-4 in a back and forth tilt. The Colts blew the lead two separate times but still managed to leave home ice with the W.

The Colts first line managed to get them out of the first period with a 2-1 lead despite the Wolves scoring the first goal of the game. A lead that only lasted 39 seconds. Andrew Mangiapane would tie the game up with assists going to Lemieux and Carrick.

The Colts would take the lead a little over 15 minutes into the frame when Lemieux scored his 4th goal of the season. Both Mangiapane and Webster were credited with assists.

The first period ended with the Colts leading 2-1. The Colts had the edge in shots 10 to 7.

The beginning of the second started with a continued penalty. Garrett Hooey was in the box for hooking and the Wolves would make them pay. Matt Schmalz would score his 3rd goal of the season to tie the game 2-2.

13 minutes later the Colts would regain the lead when Justin Scott would get HIS 4th goal of the season putting the Colts up 3-2. And 3 minutes later he would put the Colts up 4-2 when he scored his 5th on the season and second of the night!

With under a minute left in the period, Schmalz would score his second of the night and bring the Wolves within 1 goal, trailing 4-3.

Both teams finished the frame with 13 shots.

The Wolves again would strike early tying the game a little over a minute in when Kyle Capobianco would score to tie the game at 4.

7:43 into the third, Austin Clapham took a holding penalty giving the Colts a power play. With less than 10 seconds left in the penalty, Mangiapane would score his 2nd of the night putting the Colts up 5-4.

Less than a minute later, Radke would get his 3rd goal in a Colts jersey and put the Colts up 6-4. That would be enough to get the win.

Colts out shot the Wolves 15-8 in the frame and 38-28 in the game.

There were 2 things we mentioned that the Colts needed to be successful.

  • Out shoot the opposing team: The Colts have had trouble out shooting opposing teams all season. With the team riding Blackwood he has had a lot of shots his way. In 426 minutes of ice time he has been forced to make 230 saves on 255 shots. He has been kept very busy in the first 7 games of the season. A heavy work load for a kid in his draft year and so far he has not let down scouts who have been watching him
  • Stay out of the Penalty box: For the first two periods the Colts only took 2 minor penalties and 3 in the third. Not nearly as bad as they have been, expecially following the last game against the Knights when they took over 10 minor penalties and that is not counting offsetting minors. If the Colts want to stay fresh and keep winning they will need to stay out of the box.
The Barrie Colts next game is Monday afternoon in North Bay when they face the Battalion. Puck drop is set for 2 PM.
